Most of us
can finally breathe easy. It's summer! The long-awaited season
of the year is finally here where most working parents can
lie back and take it easy with work and look forward to out-of-town
trips to the beach or simply a quiet and restful stay at home.
A bad idea for some who tend to overlap the idea of work and
vacation leaves: bringing work from the office and thus missing
out on everything. Some people just love working too much
it's hard for them to leave it behind. Yes, most of us can
use the extra money from it, but a healthy line should be
set between work and play. If it's work, it's work. Not play
with work. The two don't usually work well together. And besides,
it's summer! Summer is too short to be wasted.
So if you should prefer to quietly
stay at home, why not bond with your active child as well
after having that golden tan right in your own deck or backyard.
Try doing some things with her, like playing with her dollhouse
kit that you have bought for her; this just might be the
perfect time to catch up on the progress of the tyke that
just seem to get bigger with each passing day. That is, if
you have noticed that he or she has grown bigger what with
the time that you barely have at home after getting off from
work.
So for starters, make some lemonade.
Lemonade never fails to cool down parched throats during summer.
Or perhaps help out in putting up a lemonade party with your
favorite girl, complete with cookies in tiny toy plates, and
lemonade in cute teacups while dressed up as Cinderella, Sleeping
Beauty, Barbie, or Fiona.
Or why not have an intimate (we call
this intimate as it is only the two of you) activity together
like playing with your daughter's dollhouses
and try reminiscing the time when you were still her age and
playing with similar toys. Just letting your child know that
you are as interested as she is with playing can not only
build self-confidence in her but create memories worth cherishing
for your child. You can only imagine your child when she becomes
a mother herself say fondly to her child, “I remember
my mom taking the whole week off during summer so she could
play with me and my modern
dollhouse with my favorite dolls.” Now that's a
thought worth thinking of, isn't it?
Or why not go shopping with her for
some new beach toys and swimwear. And when you go to the beach
with the whole family, you may want to pick scour the beach
with a toy spade and a bucket in hand and pick some nice shells
along the way or try your knack at building a sandcastle when
you get back. So go out and enjoy the summer with
your daughter. If summer is too short to be wasted on work,
so is your daughter's childhood. The next thing you know,
your child may become too old for such activities. But since
summer rarely comes without the sun, don't forget the sunscreen
lotion! |
